鉄の古道具を真っ赤に熱して柔らかくして、ぺちゃんこになるまで金槌で叩く。15年前からずっと続けてきているオリジナル技法です。叩いたもの単品で作品にする場合もあれば、複数のものを組み合わせて新たなイメージを作る場合もあります。当サイトでは、単品ものをOSHIBANAシリーズと名付けています。
叩いたものはトラバサミと呼ばれる猟具。Cの字状の2つの金輪がバチンと閉じて動物を捕獲する仕組みです。非常に危険な仕掛けで事故も多いため、日本では2007年から使用禁止となっています。（もちろん、この作品はぺちゃんこに叩いて金輪は全く動かないようになっているのでご安心下さい。）現代の生活環境や倫理観によって淘汰された道具と言えますが、かつては人々の暮らしを守ってきたのもこれまた事実。なのでトラバサミの野蛮さだけを取り除き、道具の歴史を感じられるように全体のフォルムは残すことにしました。なかなかデリケートな作業でした。
Heat an old iron tool to bright red, soften it, and beat it with a hammer until it is flattened. This is an original technique that I have been doing for the past 15 years. In some cases, single pieces of struck pieces are made into a work of art, while in other cases, multiple pieces are combined to create a new image. On this site, we call the single pieces the OSHIBANA series.
The object struck is a hunting tool called "TORA-BASAMI", a mechanism in which two C-shaped metal rings are snapped shut to capture the animal. Because it is an extremely dangerous device and accidents are common, its use has been banned in Japan since 2007. (Of course, you can rest assured that this piece can be slammed flat and the golden rings will not move at all.) It can be said that these tools have been eliminated by the modern living environment and sense of ethics, but it is also true that they once protected people's lives. Therefore, we decided to remove only the savagery of the TORA-BASAMI and leave the overall form so that the history of the tool can be felt. It was quite a delicate process.
